Buying from car dealer with credit card??
Hi all
I'm wanting to buy a used car from a dealer/car supermarket/broker soon.
I intend to pay half of this (about 4K) with my savings, but want to put the balance (around 5K) on a credit card (0%).
Do car sellers accept cards???...or should I apply for a super-balance-transfer car to generate more cash?? I don't really want to go for expensive car finance.
thanks all

It depends on the dealer. I've used a credit card with main dealers before. Be aware, if they do they may charge a fee.0

Ive used cc in the past - best to check with the people you intend to buy from. Also check out their deals as VW had a very low APR on theirs.0

As neil says beware for a charge for using a card, but even putting down a £100 gives you section 75 protection for the lot, just ask before hand if they make a charge for it, if they do phone around, find someone who doesn't charge. Only my opinion, I kjnow depending where you are you may not have that choice. Thanks to all the competition posters.0

I did this with my current car, an Audi A4 bought from a VW dealer.
What I needed to do so I didnt get charged was to transfer the cash from my 0% credit card to my current account then pay for the car with my debit card.
Cheers,
Pete.I'll get me coat!0 -

There's usually a 3-4% charge for doing that though!I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care

The Audi dealer didn't charge when I paid on my CC - maybe VW will be the same - I think it will depend on who owns the dealership though - the only way to find out is to ask.0 -

No, I just loaded my egg money card and paid the dealer - no charge involved anywhere.0 -

((sigh))
Shall we start again?
Pete.g said that he had to transfer money from his credit card into his current account.
There are only a couple of cards (egg money being one of them) that don't charge to do that. Others consider it to be a balance transfer and will charge 3-4% for the privilege.
That's why I said that there is usually a charge, just in case the OP thought it was a fee-free alternative.
In your case you did it the other way, and were probably just lucky that your dealer didn't charge you for the transaction.I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care
