Do you have a personal interest in this Jacklink?
Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind.
They say that talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness. So I talk to the cats instead.

    Me too.

3 years ago nrps were moaning the government got their csa payments if pwc was on benefits, now many nrps and pwcs see the current opposite situation is morally wrong too. What is the right answer?

what happens when the kids are grown and there's no more benefit and csa?

I used to be on another forum and there were posters on both sides of the fence, for some PWCs living of assistance it was a financial shock for some when it all seemed to stop at once after the last child was none qualifying. For the NRPs was a finacial bonus when the case was closed :o

From my experience, either argument was used as an excuse NOT to pay any child support!! Whilst a face to face officer, the answers to why they weren't paying were "the Government get it, so the PWC and child aren't missing out, so why should I pay more?" or "why should the PWC get more money for not working/working than I get?" Sour grapes either way.

However, I do believe it to be totally wrong that they get to keep all the maintenance plus child support. I know somebody who qualifies for income support, yet gets £1200 per month in child support from a high earning ex plus child tax credits of £350 per month (oh, and no housing costs nor council tax to pay). Good for her, but it is morally wrong in this day where the country is in such deficit. Certainly her lifestyle is better than mine and I have a husband and we both go to work!!!

I agree there should be some disregard like there was before and the plan to up it to £40 seemed sensible enough, but it has now gone mad. All it does it encourage !!!!lessness - the more ex partners you have, the more child support you can get and stay on benefits aswell.

The new rules have not really made much difference to me, it gives me the grand total of £10 extra per week! Not that I am complaining of course, that will help towards school uniforms and clubs..something I struggled with before.

However, it does seem wrong somehow that a person could receive, for example, £100 per week in CM which before was capped at £20 with the rest going to the government due to them being on benefits and will now receive the full amount plus benefits.

But then that could just be jealousy on my part.....
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    lol :rotfl:

Still its encouragement really isnt it. and it doesnt help with the government and their payouts. iyswim. No incentive for a pwc to get a job and therefore get more maintenance as their going to get it anyway. :D I understand where nrps were coming from with their why should I pay more she doesnt get it but what they couldnt see was that she did get it the government were paying her this money in benefits and nrp was simply handing it back to the government.

A friend of mine is an NRP and his son is leaving education in July. His ex will lose his maintenance and all her benefits linked to the child. She is panicking as it's a big chunk and hardly any of her outgoings will go down. Unfortunately, she didn't look forward to account for this and will be left in a very difficult financial situation.

So basically, PWC's need to try and make adjustments to their budget well in advance to take into account the drop in income when a child leaves school (just like any other parents who relies on things like tax credits and child benefit).

Well, they could be very clever and plan ahead like my ex's partner (now wife) did.

Go 'gold digging' when it looks like the kids are growing and there will be no more benefits soon. (sorry, my kids view of their new stepmum - I just happen to agree)

I guess the good thing is that you and I are no longer supporting her idleness, as that is now my ex's problem.

With the PWC keeping all of the CM and benefits, it surely does discourage PWC to work and aim to for their futures. Thats crazy really. Couldn't there be training incentives in place linked with IS. In Denmark, they actually pay you to do a university degree! (£500 per month!)
  • Yup I commented on this a few weeks ago, absolute lunacy. As many others have said, why work??? This is the most common sense thread seen on here for a while.
