Production of documents

Hi all, I have to produce my docs at a police station.
The car I was driving was my fiance's company car so the insurance doc I have is a VERY generic document plus it's been scanned/emailed from his Head Office in Liverpool - will this be accepted? If not what happens as I won't be able to produce the original before Tuesday (if at all - I'm assuming they only have a single original at the HO).

Ask the company to fax it to the Police station. It may help.0

Thanks - yes could do. I think I'll go up there on my way to work tomorrow with what I've got then I will contact OH's HO if I need to.0

I suggest you ask the company to send a cover page testifying that the fax is true copy of the insurance document. Get that covering page signed (in Caps plus normal signature) by an manager/officer of the company.
As it is not the original document the police may not like it should they choose so you must do all you you can to assist with both the contents of the Fax and with the correct demeanour at the station.
I can make no promise that the fax will lift the issue from your shoulders but absent the original documents you seem to have no choice but to augment.0 -
Thanks. I have no problem with what they want, it's just my problem in getting it!0

When someone drove into the back of my company car when I was with NTL,a quick trip into HR to see the fleet manager was all it took to get a copy of the insurance document, all he did.
IIRC,all he had to do was to phone the insurers who faxed over a copy of the insurance certificate.0 -
You may find that if the person who inspects the document is picky that they want a letter from the employer stating that you have permission to drive the car. This is because as I assume it is an any driver policy the wording for any driver is generally along the lines of "Any driver with the policyholders permission".0

They wouldn't accept the co's insurance as it was a scanned copy though they did accept my own insurance cert which allows me to drive any car third party. I think she did say initially that I needed a letter from the co's HO to say I was covered but this wasn't needed in the end anyway. Thanks all.0
