Best time to change currency pounds to can dollars

Hello
I am going on holiday to Canada at the end of may. Today someone told me that I should get my Canadian dollars soon, as the pound is usually weaker around the time of an election. When is the best time to buy dollars? Should I get them soon or should I wait until after an election? Or, as it is quite close to the election now, will it not make much of a difference.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hi rhino, sorry can't advise you when to get your dollars but as a regular traveller to the US and Canada the Canadian dollar is at the lowest point against sterling I have known in 25 years of visits.
Buying currency is always a gamble, you win some you lose some unfortunately. Maybe the economy will stabalise once the election is over but with only a few weeks before you go away it may not rise that significantly.
I always use Crown Currency Exchange, they usually have the best rates available but the longer you purchase in advance the better rate you get.0 -
If you buy half now, and half just before you go on your trip that may be the best way of avoiding any big losses.
