Is it just me or does any one else feel that this forum is starting to become a bit of a joke?

Lots of good questions from people looking for help who might not have any experience what so ever, the usual smattering of obviously daft questions too, all, hopefully, looking for a bit of help.

The main difference (over the last 2 or 3 months say) is the ridiculous, agressive, "know it all" answers being posted that may well have best intentions at heart but serve only to trigger a reaction?

Yes, I felt that just from my first post, but some really good points were made, although it was a bit of both, someone by the name of VIG22 is too quick to bite, I would advise anyone to ignore it, as there is no justification for it at all.

When you are new to something, you don't understand enough to know which questions are reasonable or not and there are some people who are just not able to tolerate that.

I don't understand why they respond to what are in their opinion 'stupid' questions AT ALL, it only added to my distress and distracted my focus from the people who were willling to give a calm and reasonable response. Thankyou to those peops for their tolerance and kindness.

I wanted to ask what people thought about fixing 2, 3 or 5 yrs, but it really is anyones guess and I think it's as much wishful thinking as conjecture that interest rates won't go up sharply or otherwise.

I'm applying for my first mortgage tomorrow with my partner, the house is beautiful and we are really looking forward to it. We have decided on a fixed with Yorkshire BS 2 yr, 5.29, no fees, free val, subsidised 'in house' conveyancing, and 500 cashback, no T&Cs. Any FTBs out there, check it out, although I have read new products from Britannia and CoOperative coming out for 85%LTV any day now lol and good luck.

JamPam.......TRY and remember what you have posted.......It's kinda foolish to ask for someone's opinion and then criticise them for offering one!!

In the below thread you quite clearly asked for my opinion!!....also I dont see where I have posted you asked "stupid question".....You have put the label on yourself!.........

Well, you are quick to respond. You have joined forums in January this year and already managed to post 2400 posts!!! That makes about 25 posts a day... (I am not trying to start a debate on what is a reasonable number of posts or similar)

I agree on some level. It's a very difficult time for so many people obtaining a mortgage, so there is a real emotional investment as well as financial. Many people are FTB's and I find this forum really helpful.

But saying that I don't have a problem with harsh comments as long as its constructive and honest. I actually find it quite refreshing but there was a post recently from a woman in an abusive relationship where the responses felt rather cold.

Despite what they may think, the vested interests do not run this forum for their own benefit.
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:

People posting questions have to take as much responsibility as those answering them.......

If people are willing to post personal details, they also have to be able to receive the feedback that goes with it...I cant imagine why anyone would choose to post re abusive relationships under mortgages....Other forums would be more appropriate and give support if required.....

To be fair ginvst, this thread has started regarding aggressive behaviour/attitudes/responses - and you go and say that! If ironic, then welcome!

I'm more concerned about the ammount of unqualified people that come on here and (admittedly, while trying to help) recommend an unsuitable course of action.

The amount of people that openly recommend committing fraud is rediculously high because they got away with it/the lender wont check!

If someone posts what their LTV is, this is not enough to recommend a product, more information must be requested before suggesting products. Advisors know this and will ask, but Helpful Joe will just shout out the lowest rate they find on MoneySuperMarket.

Maybe there should be a sticky in this forum that will have the very basics of a factfind and people should fill this out before asking what product to go for? But then that would probably require the site to become authorised?...

Sorry to ramble, I dont have the solution, maybe I should have just kept quiet!

    Cheers

Yep I agree to a point but the information she provided gave context to her situation regarding the fact she didnt want to contact him. I don't think this forum needs to be touchy feely, its about facts and process. But some people are on a learning curve.

I have no problem with any of the interactions. Its a messageboard after all.

But that is the nature of the web.Every post has a different opinion or a course of action. At the end of the day its the persons responsibility what action they take, not the person making a suggestion.
