Dodgy call saying can claim money back

Hi all.
I'm a bit worried. In the last hour or so my wife has received a call from a company called UK Claims.
They said that they were contacting all Lloyds TSB customers who had incured any charges over the last 6 years and that my wife was entitled to claim £700-£800. Legal fee charge £79.99 that was to be refunded. (V-Dodgy)
I didn't know what was happening at first but then my wife started confirming some card details. Hairs on my back went up and I then got on the phone to them. Very slick people but I'm convinced it's not legit.
After some questioning I handed the phone back to my wife and callled Lloyds on the other phone. During that time they transferred her to a colleague who said he was working for First Call Financial to verify the account. Apparently UK Claims is the parent company!!!
From speaking to my wife they offerd some of the early numbers of her bank card which I think can be easily obtained. I think this has then got my wife thinking it was okay and she finished of the rest of the details.
My wife asked if they could send details out in writing but they were really trying to do this "Verify the details".
Anyway, she hung up and called Lloyds and card has been now been cancelled.
Just felt it important to put it on here. Sorry if it's already a topic just in a bit of a Panic now and my wife is kicking herself. She's a bit too trusting!

This company have been doing the rounds recently and its the comments have been similar. They tell lies to get you to try and sign up and pay the money. They said that they were contacting all Lloyds TSB customers who had incured any charges over the last 6 years and that my wife was entitled to claim £700-£800.
Couple of things there. How do they know you bank at Lloyds? How do they know you are in financial hardship (as thats the only way to claim back bank charges)?
If they have that info then its a data protection breach as they are not entitled to have that information and its not in the public domain.
Either they are a dodgy claims company or a scam pretending to be a claims company.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
I think most of these companies "tell lies" and "are" dodgy claims companies from posts on here!!This company have been doing the rounds recently and its the comments have been similar. They tell lies to get you to try and sign up and pay the money.

Reading the Supreme Court Judgement might be one way since they made no mention of financial hardship and did not say that bank charges were fair. Dunstonh, bank charges can be reclaimed however I will always agree with you when you say not to touch them with a bargepole especially if they are charging upfront fees.

Next time the OP should ask for the Ministry of Justice authorisation number0 -

There are still possible avenues for sure. However, saying that his wife was entitled to £800 suggests a more clear cut case. If it isn't financial hardship then the wording is the sort the MoJ have told claims companies to stop using as there is no such thing as entitlement.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Thanks guys, and sorry for delay in getting back on here. No CCJ or financial hardship so have no clue where they were coming from. As for how do they know my wife banks for Lloyds, again no clue what so ever. Just glad I heard the conversation as it went on. Fingers crossed that's the Last we will hear from them. Will be keeping a close eye out on all accounts regardless now though.0

I suspect there is no data protection breach. It works like all spam attacks and relies on the huge amount of numbers involved.
As LLoydsTSB are one of the big four (the biggest of them?) then chances are contacting someone on a random name & number list will get a 1:4 hit.
The OP didn't say the company had suggested the OP was in financial hardship, sinply that the OP had incurred some bank charges. Now this again is possibly quite good odds at scoring a hit I guess, and even if not true works on the basis of greed by promising a £700-£800 refund; a bit like all those who fools who send off money to get their winnings from the Spanish Lottery ... a lottery they've never entered."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
I agree with you there. Although we do know that data protection breaches do occur.I suspect there is no data protection breach. It works like all spam attacks and relies on the huge amount of numbers involved.
I was inferring that either the company was telling lies or they knew information about the OP. The former is the more likely option. The OP didn't say the company had suggested the OP was in financial hardship, sinply that the OP had incurred some bank charges.
Thats why claims companies make so much money for themselves. They prey on greed.works on the basis of greed by promising a £700-£800 refund; a bit like all those who fools who send off money to get their winnings from the Spanish Lottery ... a lottery they've never entered. :cool:I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Hi, i just received a call from i think an Indian person called Richard, saying he was from UK Claims, and that i was due around £800/£900 back from fees from my bank. I thought it was a bit strange, so i said who are you and what company are you with, and he said Richard and im with UK Claims, then he just hung up. probably when he knew i thought it was dodgy he hung up. The number he called me on came up as 0123 and that was it, tried to call back but nothing happens. So i googled it up and found replies on here about it. So just shows you, he was probably wanting my bank details from me. I wonder if i should call my bank to let them know? and im with Lloyds TSB.
