Any rail deals on Edinburgh to London in advance

17 yr old is travelling to London in August & I need the cheapest way possible to get him there & back. Do you know of any deals or the cheapest way? Thanks.

What have you found so far?

You are too early for the really cheap tickets.

This National Rail webpage will give you an idea when the cheap tickets become available.

As a example, out on 25 May and return on 27 May can be done with Advance Singles for £24.05 each way.

In theory, it is possible to do it for £12 each way.

    Info from East Coast Trains.

16-25 rail card for £26 a year if he is likely to use trains over the year would be worthwhile.

Yeah 12 weeks prior to travel should see the cheap fares coming out, for then though you should start to see airline prices for then surely? Also the bus might be cheaper, I know there are coaches Edin-London, don't know if Megabus do it you can get them for a pound!
Thanks to all the competition posters.

Depending when he is travelling, he might recoup that on the one trip !

It is all so confusing, i wish they would just standardise everything.

Oxford to Leeds is nearly twice as expensive as Oxford to Birmingam then Birmingham to Leeds buying sep. tickets, even though the first train stops at Birmingham anyway and will probably be the same train. My brain is hurting just trying to make sense of it all and Im terrified of making a mistake.
Can we book with East Coast trains over the Phone, does anyone know and is there a generic number.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

If this is for a uni interview or similar, then try the sleeper service - overnight down, a day in London, overnight back. Bargain Berths at £19, £29, £39 and £49. Even a one-way overnight and daytime the other way can save the cost of a hotel in London.

    From Saynoto0870...
East Coast Trains, Ticket Sales & Information, a geographic number is 0191 227 5959.

Whilst they should sell any ticket asked for, please be aware that they are not obliged to search for the cheapest combination of tickets for you.
