Expand the "Thanks" system?

I propose that the MSE forums should bring in a reputation points system or a "thumbs up/thumbs down" as used on other forums to replace the "thanks" button.
It's all very lovely being able to thank people for good advice, but there are also a lot of posts on here giving unhelpful, misinformed and purely incorrect advice. The majority of these posts aren't actually against forum rules, so they can't be reported, but there should be some kind of system that can discourage people from posting bad advice.
I know it's an open forum and people can say what they want but I think an idea like this could be really beneficial to all users. Thoughts?
[EDIT] Incidentally this post would get a big thumbs down because I should've posted it in Forum Policy/Rules. Oops...

Can we have a "jolly good post" button please?0

I would just keep it to having the report post button, yes there is loads of bad advice but letting users show it up against people can cause further negative posts, report them to moderators and let them moderate the forum.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -
There is already a built in "reputation" system on the software that MSE uses.

It is disabled however.
I rather dislike the "thanks" system, and would not 'cry' if t was removed.
But I am not a great fan of any other particular system. They are all flawed, and are not a replacement for a user using their own common sense over posts from others. In other words, there are 'dangers' in all systems that base a reputation on something.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Such a system already exists - it's the reply button!
Of course, you need to be careful about what you consider is 'bad advice', because people may use the same method against such allegation."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
