what would suit the best category on ebay for the following item.
its a sepia photo/picture of morgan street in tredegar taken many years ago (havent got a clue how many years ago). its one of them look what the place you live in used to look like when the only transport was a horse and cart and there were no proper roads.
my mum bought it for my nan one birthday as she was bought up there, she got it from a craft fair place.
would something like this sell and any ideas how much i should start it at? it cost my mum £25 when she got it, my nans been dead now for 6 years.

Unfortunately things bought at craft fairs tend to be overpriced and rarely make their money back. My local library sell prints of local areas for approx £2-£3 plus framing at an additional £8 and I understand that there is on emain company that do these prints so it is likely that your item originally came from one of those franchises.
What you could do is list tomorrow or Thursday when there is a 10p listing but start highish, say £12-£15 possibly with a BIN of £25 and see what happens. If it doesn't sell then just relist at a lower price later.

Sorry I'd just thought I'd add that you need to make sure you list it properly. An original photo is likely to be in poorer condition as the prints often did not hold, but worth more. A modern print taken from an old photo which is more likely is probably in better condition but worth less.

I see they've described it as 8/6ins, but the illustration is approx 5:8 ratio.Anthillmob wrote:why i didnt look on ebay myself i dont know but i found this which is the same picture but mine is framed.

thats confused me. havent measured it yet. also their pic is a mirror image of mine. in that the clock tower is at the other angle and the shops (if theyre shops) on the right are on the left in mine and vice versa for the right ones. There's someone in my head, but it's not me0 -
the one listed on ebay is a print though:rolleyes: Democracy is a process by which the people are free to choose the man who will get the blame.:j0

If some of the buildings in the picture are still there, maybe someone who knows the area might be able to tell you which one is the right way round. Since the one on eBay is listed under "contemporary (1940-now)" and has words printed on it, it's probably a modern mass-produced print, like a big postcard.Anthillmob wrote:thats confused me. havent measured it yet. also their pic is a mirror image of mine. in that the clock tower is at the other angle and the shops (if theyre shops) on the right are on the left in mine and vice versa for the right ones.
The most likely reason for a mirror image print is that the negative has been upside down when the print (or the original print from which it was copied) was made.
If yours is a "real" photographic print made directly from the original negative, it will be worth a bit more than a mass-produced postcard-type print or an inkjet print made from a scanned image, but it's still not likely to be worth a lot unless the print itself is old. If you have a good look at it, with a magnifying glass if necessary, you should be able to tell whether it's a "real" photo. If a mass-produced print, the dots will probably be visible to the naked eye: if you have reasonably good eyesight and need a magnifying glass to see the little uniformly spaced dots, it's probably an unusually good quality mass produced print.
If it's a genuine photographic print made directly from a negative, the grain will be more random, and invisible to the naked eye, since a negative of that age would be a large format, and either contact printed or only slightly enlarged.0
