PS3 ylod

My sons 60g PS3 has ylod, bought from asda 2 yrs ago so out of warranty.Called into asda today and was told contact sony, allready tried this. Has anyone had any the same problem and had any luck with asda head office. If anyone can help please.

friend of mine had the very same thing yesterday, he contacted sony who confirmed it was broken. he has had to do an exchange with sony, they will take his broken console away and leave him with a reconditioned one, with 3 months warrenty, cost was around £130.00. they do it via courier.
don't think he had any other joy as his too was out of warrenty.

Sony stopped giving free replacements due to millions of people taking advantage, as mentioned above, sony will replace for £131 (thats what mine cost about a month ago) if you get a nice call centre person they will increase the warranty to a year. If there is a game stuck inside or if he wants to back up his data the only way to do that is to wrap it in a towel and put a hairdryer close to the back vents for about 10-15 mins, this is a temp fix for the YLOD only,

If you do it in 10 min bursts let it coll down for about 15 mins plug it in and check if it turns on each time it will prevent the plastic from warping, although mine did warp completely and i still sent it off to sony with no comeback from them
