Faulty Laptop

I bought a Fujitsu laptop from Tesco in August 2008 for £379. Straight away one of the keys fell off which I had a long fight with Tesco and Fujitsu about whereby Tesco eventually albeit relucantly replaced the key. A couple of months before the warranty ran out I noticed it kept overheating and switching off so I returned it to Fujitsu and they repaired it. Now the same thing is happening again but they are refusing to repair it as it has ran out of warranty. They say I am liable for repairs myself and they will charge me accordingly. Surely:- a) a laptop should last longer than 20 months and b) I shouldn't be expected to pay for a repair since it is obviously an ongoing problem. Can anyone help me with this as I am getting nowhere fast? Thank you

SoGA is what you will want to look at, but since it's over 6 months it will be up to you to prove an inherent manufacturing fault, via someone independent.
Regarding your issue - overheating, try clean the vents as best as you can from outside (compressed air, although be careful as you shouldn't just blindly spray it in), a machine shouldn't suddenly overheat unless the cooling fan has failed. The processor working harder isn't viable here as it would be the same from day one.
I personally doubt there is much of a manufacturing issue with the laptop.
Myself, I would open it, clean the cooling fins with compressed air, clean the processor die off and use fresh (and better) thermal paste. (I'm not suggesting you do this, or are capable, but this is most likely what will help with the cooling).0
