THE FOLLOWING IS NOW SORTED, THANK YOU, PLEASE SEE LATER QUERY. :o

I use Firefox as my main browser but (horrible) Internet Explorer is there as a back-up. I would like to install Opera as I like the Mini version :D on the iPhone, but don't really want three browsers clogging up my laptop ... OS is Windows 7 if that makes any difference.

If I go to Control Panel then Uninstall Programmes I cannot see IE on the list to delete, and really that is about the extent of my technical know-how. :o Is anyone able to give me a dummies guide to getting shot of IE or will I break Windows?

Thank you!

Control Panel > Programs > Turn Windows features on or off > Uncheck Internet Explorer 8 (should be third box down)

That will remove it as far as you can.
  • http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957700 ? If you have "8". Or write "remove internet explorer" in Google.

You can't uninstall IE and it won't clog up your laptop unless you invoke the program.

I want to cry, this importing bookmarks thing is impossible. :( The first 'how to' guide didn't tell me I needed to export before importing which I have now done. Opera finally said I have imported 900 bookmarks but when I go to Opera I only have a new Netscape (I don't have Netscape) folder which appears to be empty?? :( I have deleted the Netscape folder but it reappears when I import my Firefox bookmarks again.

To be fair since I used Weave to get my bookmarks from old lappy to new I have all the bookmark folders on my toolbar, but the folders don't show up on the menu when I try to add a new bookmark. :(

Hi Have you exported your Firefox bookmarks correctly? You should have a file named 'bookmarks.html' saved somewhere convenient such as on your desktop.

I did export and import them properly, but somehow ended up with three folders entitled 'bookmarks' and three entitled 'bookmarks toolbar' or 'bookmarks toolbar folder' most of which were empty! :o Eventually I found all my bookmarks, inside a folder inside a folder inside a folder ... I have sort of fixed it by getting rid of three levels but I don't actually know how . :o

Double clicks on Opera are not the same as double clicks on Firefox which is confusing me. Managed to set up a link between Opera and Opera Mini so I should be able to use my bookmarks and speed dials. BUT at present my speed dials on Mini doesn't look the same as on Opera, they don't appear to have changed when I edited them on Opera. They have changed tho as if you tap on Amazon you go to Moneysavingexpert and if you tap on BBC news you go to Amazon.

It's painfully obvious that I am incompetent. :(
