Attempted break-in story

This isn't a request for help, but after reading the thread you may be inclined to make a comment or share your thoughts:
Last Saturday my wife and I went out to a party. Called a taxi, left the house about 8pm, had a great time came back at 1am and found a piece of plastic wedged into the barrel lock receiver in the front door.
I took this as an attempted break in. My front door has a Yale night latch which needs pulling tight to make it click shut. I didn't use the deadlock because my three teenage kids (and the dog) were still in the house.
The plastic looked like a strip from a fizzy drinks bottle and had been slipped between the jamb in an attempt to shim the catch.
I'm happy to say they failed but now we're on alert and currently reviewing security on doors and windows.

Dependng on how tight your door fits, stick a couple of drawing pins in the side of the door. It will catch pieces of plastic (mainly things like clubcards etc) which are pushed through the door to open the lock. Cheap but very effective. Some people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!0
