Bank Transfer cocerns....

I am interested in an item on ebay that has a BIN price a lot lower than I would expect. The item is new.
The seller is in Ireland and only accepts bank transfer. I don`t want to miss a bargain, but it is an expensive item (£800).
Any thoughts on what if anything the seller `might` be up to???
Thanks in advance

Worst case scenario: he'll take the money and run. Alternatively he could be a perfectly legit seller who just preferes to take bank transfer.
If it makes you uncomfortable to pay that way, you could ask politely if he'll accept any other payment methods... also verify that it's not a hijacked account and that his feedback and trading history is sound. I hope for that kind of money he has a lot of feedback. My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
escrow???? try using that
you send the money to an escrow company
he then gets notified of payment and can send the goods.
escrow company releases payment upon receipt of goods
escrow.com is a big one
it does cost money though, money saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

If the item looks 'too cheap' and as he is not taking paypal it might well be a hijacked account.
Do a bit research, what has this seller sold before, has he got feedback for previous high price sales, does he always want bank transfers only? Some of the giveaways would be if he usually takes paypal but doesn't this time, or if he is normally a buyer or a seller of 99p items, that sort of thing.
A bank transfer is not a safe payment method so make sure you are very happy before you proceed as there is no way of getting your money back should you end up being scammed as ebay protection tops out at £105.

Thed main thing is don't get blinded by the bargain, if it all goes wrong you will look a little silly.
As the others have said check out past sales etc and give him a ring if possible. I have never used an escrow account b ut as bleugh suggests it might be an option.
If the seller is in Eire someone will be paying forex charges as well...who?0
