Can't do anything text related on a mobile phone! + Crashes

Hi, I just purchased a used o2 XDA II (the old type, not the orbit)
After getting it set up, I realised that it wouldnt turn on all the time, sometimes sticking on the o2 screen.
Next, when I get into the actual user interface, sometimes I get a message saying "caller ID something exe can't be found" if i click ok, the phone then crashes and takes a while to get back on to windows again.
And just to complete the trio of annoyances, the phone does not recieve texts, you can't go into the inbox or write a text message - it just bleeps when you click on text.
Any suggestions as to what to do?
Thanks :)

    Hi there,

You could try a reset as described here. If you havent done much to it in the way of adding telephone numbers etc, then the hard reset would probably be the way to go as it resets to factory settings. All you should need to do then is go through the setup again but this shouldnt take too long.

    Thanks very much :)
This might be a really stupid question, but will I lose the "bolt on" i've signed up to (text and web) and my credit?
or is this a totally different thing. I don't claim to be an expert at phones, i'm the absolute opposite.

Nope, that's all part of your account. You could stick your sim card in any (unlocked) phone and still have your credit and call packages.

You will lose any messages, contacts, photos, music, etc on your current phone, although you can copy messages and contacts to your sim (it only has fairly limited capacity though)

Oh dear, I've done a "hard reset"
and now it won't let me phone people!
I can go in and do texts, but now the phone screen is cut off, and it wont let me call!
