Is it worth having a room thrmostat on central heating ?

My dad got a new boiler and rads installed last year, they installed thermostats on all the rads but he does not have a room thermostat thats mounted on the wall, the boiler is just run off a timer on the boiler

Is it worth him getting one installed to save money on the heating bills ?

    Yes it is.

He should have had one fitted as standard according to regs.

Remove the trv in the room where the room stat goes, or at least leave it turned on full all the time.

I thought it was a bit odd that one was not fitted didnt realise it was part of any regs

We had one fitted last year - TRVs on all radiators. No room thermostat was fitted, and between the controls on the boiler and the TRVs, it works fine.

Normally a room stat would be compulsory on new boiler installs, and the radiator in the room with the stat should not have a radiator stat.

Without the roomstat the boiler and pump will run continuously, cycling on and off its internal stat. This is inefficient.

The system may have been designed so the requirement to avoid boiler cycling has been achieved by some other means, but some form of electrical boiler interlock to turn off the boiler when the heating system is satisfied is mandatory under Part L of th Building Regulations.

Does the fitting of a thermostat that shuts off the circulation of the water not stop the TRVs working as intended?

Not if the thermostat is fitted in the room which is last to come up to temperature.
