I need to replace the hard drive in my daughters p.c. The original Hitachi P7K500 HDP725032GLA360 320 GB SATA is no longer available so I need to find a suitable equivalent. What I need to know is, will any SATA drive work or do I need to match any particular aspect of spec for it to fit and function correctly?

Any SATA drive should work electrically. You just need worry about the mechanical fixing. If it is a desktop, a 3.5 inch drive will do the job.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

Indeed any drive should do. Heres a Western Digital 500gb drive on eBuyer, should do the trick!

Do you have all your backup disks??
The recovery partition (if used) will be on the drive you are taking out so you will not get your "Press F2 to restore" option with the new drive.0 -
depending on how much data your daughter likes to download, I would buy a bigger harddrive than 500gb, best value drives at the moment at 1.5tb that 1397gb formatted at £73.99 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/166989 plus you'll get free delivery, where as if you go fo the cheaper drive, 1 less storage, 2, you have to pay for delivery.
I have 1 of these drives and they are quiet and even though they are slower only 5400rpm, the speed is equal to a 7200rpm drive.
I would personally Clone/Image the drive, with a Cloning tool basically it would copy everything from your drive to the new drive, aka freeware program called TODO backup will do it for you. http://www.todo-backup.com/
instructions on how to clone using it here http://www.todo-backup.com/products/features/disk-clone-guide.htm0
