In P2 there will ALWAYS be Q on consolidation. It is one of the main cores of the syllabus. However there also will be others.
Consolidation was only mentioned because that is the part that relies on past knowledge, without it you are screwed. I have friends who failed it several times because of it.0 -
When i said i like finding out why it didnt balance, i didnt mean in the exams haha. I meant when i am practicing at home. This then allows me to avoid these silly mistakes in the actual exam. I know it is unlikely to balance in exam but i like to minimalize the errors.
I will not do the course as i dont think it would be of much help to me. I am pretty confide3nt about passing p2 by reading text book and using study kit. As long as i practice past paper under exam conditions as suggested. I dont see why i wont do well. Also i have a few friends that took the courses so i can ask what tips they were given. However most of these people failed anyway and got much lower marks than me at University so its hard to compare.
ps i wont do that tax thing i mentioned if it is against the rules. But generally tax is where the money is so i'd love to work in that area in the longer-term future.0 -
it is only against the rules if you don't have a practising certificate but it will take you another 2 years to get that

p.s. I agree tax is fun! (the non-accountants reading the forum will be thinking we are strange :P)0 -
I've just done my AAT indirect tax exam. I agree that tax is interesting! I find it far easier and more interesting than a lot of the other accounting stuff...Indecision is the key to flexibility

Hi,
I posted another thread yesterday but just spotted this so i apologise to anyone who replied to that.
I studied AAT level 2 when i was 16/17 and i am 28 now. I left accounts for a higher paid admin job.
I really want to continue as its my dream career but im stuck in the catch 22
I need more study but with my debt cant afford more study if i wont get a job at the end of it. Also no body wants you as you have no experience but you need experience to help you with the study.
ANy advise?Baby Girl Born May 2011Baby Boy Born Nov 2012

You need to understand your own motivation :
Why do you say this is your dream career ?
Why did you not pursue this some time in the last 11 years ?
Do you have a job at the moment ? - if so, would it be possible to make an internal transfer to the accounts department (possibly to cover maternity leave etc ?).
As you have waited this length of time, it may be better to look longer term - continue to work, reduce your debts (mentioned above), so hopefully if/when the economy picks up you will be better placed to move into a development job that may mean an initial drop in salary.0 -

Hi thanks for the reply.
To answer some questions. I know its my dream career. I started in accounts when i was 16 and they covered my study up to level 2 on a day release. When i completed this i was told they would no longer cover my study and when your on £3,900 a year i couldnt afford it.
I went into the higher paid admin job in the hope to build up some money. I instead spent most of it on learning to drive and after 4 tests i still cant. arrg.
I have spent the last 6-8 years trying to concieve going through procedures, hospital appointments etc so i did not feel it was the right time to start a new career.
I am currently on maternity leave after finally having my daughter. Took ICSI (a version of IVF) and a lot of pain but got there in the end. Shes now 7 months and im due back to work in May which is why i am trying to re-evaluate now what i want for me not just for a family.
I work in the NHS and at the minute there is a total freeze on vacancies. So not only is nothing on offer it could be a long while before there is.
Sorry if i have missed anything and again thanks for replying.Baby Girl Born May 2011Baby Boy Born Nov 2012

Good Morning Folks
I am on my last level of the AAT and thinking of applying for jobs which require an AAT qualification.
Can someone please give me some idea of what type of jobs someone can apply for with an AAT qualification?
Is it possible to apply for management level jobs with this qualification?
Thanks in advance for your response.0 -
