 Hi, Marty J,
(Back from spending winter where the sun do shine. :cool2: )
Glad to see you're still here!
Now, then; what's all this about?
Apple dont have a monopoly but they want one.
I'm sure Apple would love it if every phone sold was an iPhone. Most companies want to be successful. It's on page one of "How to Run a Company".
Both wrong
. Apple would be terrified by the prospect of every 'phone sold being an iPhone.
Because on Page Two of "How to Run a Company" it's explained that if a company becomes so successful that it obtains a monopoly, the Federal Authorities will intervene and break it up.
It was for that same reason that Bill Gates helped Steve Jobs save Apple from going bust when Jobs regained control of Apple. If Apple had gone under, Microsoft would then have been forcibly broken up because it would have had insufficient remaining competition.
Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:
As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.

There's nothing inherently illegal about having a monopoly is there? It seems to me that the problems involved are more related to the anti-competitive practices that often go along with getting one (Microsoft's "institutional disdain for both the truth and for rules of law that lesser entities must respect").0 -
Just to clear things up i'll quote what I said rather than reply to specific posts.Apple dont have a monopoly but they want one. Not only are they restricting what users can do on their products to the point where its not really yours at all because they can do want they want with it ...
Worth a read about the ipad; apple have the sort of control over "your" device that at anytime they can do anything to it like delete your books, apps, games, remove device capabilities, etc if and when they want or force things on you you might not want. Not to mention everything with the exception of music (how revolutionary steve) it wrapped in DRM. Sure the new iphone will have the same. (Remember the fuss about amazon deleting books from the kindle?)

Microsoft cant delete my games and other settings when they want. Apparently apple say they wont abuse this power over your stuff.but they're trying to restrict what non-customers do on other phones. Thats why they're suing HTC, knock-on effect of restricting Android and win mob; dont think the user base of the pre is big enough for them to follow through on their threats to palm. Hay-ho its off to court we go.
From a typically pro apple website:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/02/apple-vs-htc-a-patent-breakdown/
http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/02/apple-specifically-going-after-android-in-htc-lawsuit/
Its just opinion but not made up by any means rob, is it non-sense because you dont agree with it?
Edit: It could be considered anti-competative the amount of control apple have over the app store.0 -
I'd love Adobe not to release CS5 or further versions onto Macs, just desserts...0

Nothing to add to the post, but Hi to Leopard

just awaiting delivery of an android phone...i believe it's a similar principal to an iphone..only from the future rulers of the galaxy (google). no idea if it has flash...and I don't currently care either

Adobe have already said that they're not going to do things like not release CS5 or successors as that just hurts customers.
Apple wouldn't dare sue Palm - Palm have stacks of patents that they could hold against Apple, they've both infringed on each other I reckon. Plenty of Palm stuff in the iPhone/iPod Touch (iPod Touch= Palm Lifedrive but a few years later, and restricted), and there are probably plenty of Newton ideas in the older Palms.
Adobe have said that they'll be releasing Flash 10.1 for mobiles (full Flash, not 'Lite') starting with Palm webOS and including Andriod, and I think they should get on with this with their 'freinds' instead of trying to come round to the cool guy's house who clearly doesn't want them there.
Apple's attitude with the iPhone stinks.
No Flash - battery life/performance. No multitasking - battery life/performance. Is that the kind of attitude than advances technology?! That would mean sticking with the command-line as a GUI slows it down too much!0 -
spot on, how many people use the likes of teh CS suite on MACS. LOLtopgearfan08 wrote: »I'd love Adobe not to release CS5 or further versions onto Macs, just desserts...0 -
Thanks for the welcome back, DatabaseError,
I'm sure that anewhope will share your delight.
Mention of whom prompts me to commend him for deciding to start posting literately, during my absence. Has he bought a Mac?
After so long away, I was just about to crush a pesky little fly running around on the left-hand side of my monitor when I suddenly remembered that... :rotfl:
(And to think that I asked you to bring it back!
)
Hope life goes well with you, and yours. :money:
