Volcanic ash - flights

Nightmare, am supposed to be flying today and guess what cancelled flights from city airport.

Is it worth rescheduling flights over next couple of days?

  • i heard they arnt refunding flights as it was an act of god (!!!) so if you re book too soon and they cancel again would you loose more money? if you do need to re book i would think that leaving it as long as possible would be best as i really think this will last at least 2/3 days more-they cant tell really can they,i dont think they have ever had to deal with something like this on such a scale before!?
hope you get in the air soon :)

Britain is cut off from the world, the ash cloud is heading our way, it will block out the sun and cause a new ice age, still mustn't grumble.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

It says on flybe they will refund but not sure if that means they refund whole journey or if i decide to go one way will that affect the price? so confusing! AM getting the boat tonight over to England but not sure if my flight back is still valid or if I need to cancel all.

    Hey there,

Just an FYI of BA's policy (please see ba.com for full details/the full policy)

"Customers booked to travel on a cancelled flight can claim a full refund or choose one of the options set out immediately below.
If you wish to travel to your original destination, you may re-book on another British Airways or BA franchise flight at your convenience, subject to availability.

    Conditions:
    • The change in booking must take place no later than two weeks after the original flight.
    • Travel must be completed within ticket validity or within three months from the original flight, whichever is longer.
    • The return flight, if applicable, can be re-booked at the same time, and no extra fare is payable.
If the above option is not acceptable to you, you may claim a refund of the original British Airways flight or BA Franchise flight, plus any parts of the journey not made which are on the same ticket as the original flight.

    Conditions:
    • The refund will be credited to the original form of payment.
To discuss or apply any of these options please contact British Airways, the relevant BA franchise operator or your travel agent, whichever issued your original documents."

I was booked to fly today on flybe. On their website it says you can rebook at no extra charge but when I go into the link to rebook tomorrow a difference in cost comes up at over £100. Will this come out of my debit card (bank) or not? HELP!

    Disruption due to volcanic ash

Due to the large volcanic eruption in Iceland, the official closure of air space over the UK and following further advice from National Air Traffic Services and the Met Office, in the interest of safety, Flybe has grounded all its aircraft and has cancelled all of its flights for the remainder of today, Thursday April 15th.

Passengers booked to fly today are advised NOT to go their airport of departure.

Flybe regrets any inconvenience caused due to these exceptional circumstances which are beyond our control.

Flybe will continue to update this website throughout the day and the decision regarding the operation of tomorrow’s flights will be advised later this afternoon.

Passengers who were due to fly today may:

Re-book to travel on another flight on the same route at no additional charge within the next 7 days, subject to availability (also extend return flight dates to accommodate required length of stay)
Rebook for travel to the final destination at a later date (subject to availability)
    Refund for the affected flight

Travel agents may request refunds via their BSP link for any flights cancelled in order to minimise delays.

To minimise call centre volumes, only passengers booked to travel between today and Monday April 19th should call our Customer Call Centre on 0871 700 2000 or, if calling from outside the UK, 00 44 1392 268500. However please note that, due to the exceptionally high volume of calls currently being processed, wait times are likely to be in excess of 15 minutes.

Flybe regrets any inconvenience caused and thanks you in advance for your continued patience.
    - But I' ve tried to phone and can't get through to them. I hope that a refund means a full refund as the boat is the choice of transport for the weekend.

  • My mate's just called me from his mobile. He's currently stranded at Heraklion Aiport, Crete, as his flight home has been delayed until further notice. He's stuck there with his wife and 2 kids. He's not best pleased.
