SAAS Travel Expenses Query

Hope someone can help, I’m currently at college studying an HNC. I claimed travel expenses in January and received what I was due (Travel from my home to the college). However, I am on placement 3 days a week which is 2.5 miles away from the college. This means that I travel 15 miles a week which my travel expenses have not covered. I have been on placement since October and will be until at least the end of May, which is over 400 miles I have travelled. Is there any way I can claim this back? Would it be SAAS or my college?

Is your placement paid? If so, travel expenses cannot be claimed.

Also, travel expense claims in January are to cover the entire academic year (Sept/Oct - June), so any money received is meant to be for the whole year, not just one semester.
  • Thanks The One Who, nope placement is not paid. I just find it a bit annonying that another girl doing the same course as me lives in the same town as me, her placement is in our town so she walks there everyday yet we both got the exact same amount of travel expenses from SAAS. This means that she is profitting from the expenses pay out (we only go to college 1 day a week and are on placement for 3 days however expenses were based on going to college 4 days a week) while I'm out of pocket because my placement is further away!!

She may well have fiddled the expenses slightly, in that case. Maybe saying she got the bus rather than walked, or something. The maximum you can get is about £800, which for many doesn't cover the costs.
