Old Egg Card Debt

Hi
Not posted before but reckon you guys might be able to help me with the fix I've got myself into!
Approximately 8 years ago I took out an Egg card via the internet. It was whilst I was a single parent and was very easy to get with a 3 grand limit. I transferred another debt onto it and maybe used it a couple of times and then for many years paid the minimum amount. I had no contact with them other than a monthly email statement which I didn't even read (all to my shame and embarrassment!)
About 18 months ago the monthly amount shot up and I found it difficult to meet so I cancelled the DD. They tried to contact me via email and I ignored it. I then moved house and was by that time re-married so had a different name to that on the card and told myself I could run away from the debt. I have no personal income and did not want to ask my husband to cover it so tried to pretend it did not exist.
I started to receive calls to my mobile (which I must have registered with them at some point) which I blanked. Now the debt has been passed onto a recovery agent who has tracked my current address through my children of my first marriage. They have also acquired my home phone number and are calling on a regular basis. I have still not acknowledged that I am the person whose name is on the card.
Unbelievably the debt still stands at just over £2500 . I feel rightly or wrongly that for 6 years I paid between £45 and £75 a month and have more than covered the original borrowing. This is probably not the right attitude but do I have any possibility of writing off the remaining debt?

no... talk to them though they may reduce it. its your debt to pay off no one else's
ignoring it will only make it worse0 -
If you had any late payment or over limit charges that exceed £12 each then you may be able to reclaim those back to reduce the debt.
Otherwise you need to make an arrangement to pay. If you contact them they should agree to a monthly repayment plan that you can afford. They may agree to freeze the debt so no more interest is added.
If you don't contact them they could try to obtain a CCJ against you, which will make things much worse for you.
If you are in a position to pay it in a lump sum they will probably accept a reduced amount in full & final settlement - as the debt has been bought by the collection agency they will have paid Egg far less than the £2500, so could accept less and still make a profit. http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/england_wales/factsheet.php?page=24_full_and_final_settlement_offersA smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
