NCD protection - Sheilas Wheels

Hi, I have car insurance with Sheilas Wheels which I took out a year ago. I had 4 years ncb already when I took out my insurance with them and took out ncb protection.
Last August I damaged my car (backing it into my own driveway!) and made a claim. My insurance is now up for renewal. I phoned them today and asked them to confirm how many years ncd I had. They said that I had 4, because I had made a claim in August. I am now totally confused, as I thought that I would have 5 years as I had taken out protected ncb.
I now need to sort out how many years I have as I need to reinsure my car on the renewal date. Can anyone tell me whether Sheilas Wheels are right? I read their literature and letters I had received from them in the past, and it does not offer any clarification for this parituclar issue.
Also, if I backed into my wall, thereby being responsible for the damage, is this known as a 'fault' claim?
Many thanks in advance for your help!:o:o:o

Yes, they're right. Protecting your NCD does not mean that you will still gain a year when the policy lapses even if you have an accident; it means that you will not lose any years in the event of an accident. If your NCD had not been protected, it would have been stepped back, usually by either 2 or 3 years.
And your accident will go down as a fault claim, yes. Unless the insurer can recoup the claim costs from a third party, all accidents are considered fault.0
