how longs a piece of string?
seeing as TL overbook rooms, the only way you can guarantee having one still available is to turn up as soon after first check-in as possible - so 12 noon (if you pay extra) or 3pm for the normal plebs
honestly, you could turn up at 4pm and all the rooms could have been allocated, if all those who had booked turned up early. so no-one can say that by arriving at 10pm at night you will definitely get a room at that hotel. could b, you turn up at midnight and have no probs getting your room, its just the chance you have to take

Well if they overbook your room, haven't you made a contract sort of thing with them to provide your room?
I turned up at Cardiff travelodge at 00.20 the day after my booking and was fine.0 -
ring and tell them what time you expect to be there.0

What happens if when someone gets there even with a booking and they have not got a room?
Do they find another hotel nearby to fit them in?0 -

thats the luck of the draw. just because you turned up in Cardiff at 00.20, doesnt mean someone can turn up at Covent Garden at 5pm, and still get their room - perhaps cardiff wasnt fully booked. As for making a contract to provide a room, they are sticking to that, just not giving you a room at the lodge you wantedring and tell them what time you expect to be there.
makes no difference. until you physically check-in, you arent allocated a roomrich_shot2003 wrote: »What happens if when someone gets there even with a booking and they have not got a room?

yep, they ring around local TLs to see have available space, and you are then expected to travel there. Not something you necessarily want to do if you have turned up at midnight, and now have to travel 30+ miles to the nearest lodge (also if they have space, they tend to be the less popular ones, due to location/condition)
But, its in the T&C, so you cant really complain - the best advice is dont use TL if you think you might be turning up after 8pm, as that gives you a few waking hours to get to another lodge

I stayed at a Travelodge last weekend and arrived at about 11pm and didn't have any problems checking in. However, as others have said above they do overbook and that was the risk I took (that payed off). It's up to you whether you want to risk it or not.Well if they overbook your room, haven't you made a contract sort of thing with them to provide your room?
My booking last week stated that payment would be taken when I turned up, not at the point that I made the booking. I think *technically* they would be able to use this to say that the contract has not been competed and so they have no obligation to find an alternative room for you (although they do but this is more for customer service rather than because they have to).No trees were killed to send this message, but a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced. - Neil deGrasse Tyson (@neiltyson)0 -

I did ring them up today and told them we would be there around 8pm and they said that was fine and they didnt think we would have any problems and also the bit you said about that they take payment when you get there they didnt with me as payment was taken when i booked the room around 3 months ago.0 -

That'll probably be because you booked a saver (non-refundable, non-transferable) rateand the other poster booked a more expensive flexible rate that allows you to cancel at short notice and get a refund.0 -

I beg to differ. When we checked in a couple of Fridays ago for a 2 night stay they queried us about a second booking we had for a room the night after which was for some relatives arriving the following day. They said they had allocated the room opposite as they gathered we would want them close by. I guess it depends on teh staff at the lodge in question but they know who is "arriving" and what rooms they need in advance. What they do with that info is the unlnown0
