Non delivery of computer

Hi, wondering if anyone can help here, my friend ordered from a reputable company a custom built computer to her own requirements.
She paid just over one thousand pounds up front, as they have to buy in the parts . Seven weeks has gone by and they are saying the system has some faults and they are still testing it.

What does one do, can you require your money back, or how do you make them get on with it and deliver it, surely seven weeks is long enough. They had promised two delivery dates, but nothing showed, e mails have been replied to saying still trying to sort out problems.

Seems to me they are stalling for some reason.

Any help here would be very much appreciated.

Thank you, oap

Time to give them a deadline after which the contract is cancelled and money should be returned. - do this in writing.

This sounds very suspicious. How long does it take to build a pc? I work for a medium sized company and staff PCs are all built "in house" usually within a day or two.

It sounds like the company could be in trouble financially so lets hope you paid on a credit card and NOT a debit card!

Sounds like they are building a slightly higher end PCs than some run of the mill office desktop :p

Sometimes matching high end parts can be hit and miss, silly motherboard vs graphics card incompatibility etc. Although 7 weeks is harsh, maybe they are still trying to resolve some problem to make sure it's stable before it goes out.

Would explaining some of these details to the customer help? If they are not savvy enough to build then it probably wouldn't mean much (maybe too generalised, sorry if it doesn't apply).

Loads of things can add up here, over estimating of OP (could be 6 weeks 4 days etc), the bank holidays recently, time to get the parts in (maybe delay on some parts), then time to put together, test, resolve possible issues etc...

I would like to know what reputable company is building this pc? (Not many large line retailers tend to custom build machines these days).

Thank you, yes it was paid for by credit card, do not want to name company as yet, until resolved or otherwise, thank you very much for replying.

Additionally, ask them for the exact issue (in technical detail) and you can return here with it to see if it's plausible.

I would have thought they they would have tested the various specs before offering them to the public.

Yes, but this was a custom built requested computer, but there should not have been any problem. Possibly going to take legal action if cannot get money back, as over two months has gone and still no computer.

I always buy custom build (about 7 times now - I need high spec PCs for my work) and have never waited more than 20 days, nor has the PC ever been delayed. Sometimes the absence of a specific component can delay things but I would expect you always to be given a choice of an comparable alternative and, if you reject the choice, to be told exactly how long the delay will be. Testing should take around 2 days if done thoroughly. If seven weeks have gone by without a set delivery date then something is seriously amiss. Is this Mesh we're talking about, BTW?
