British gas con?

Hi I received my bill from bg today raising it from 36 to 90 a month.
A yr ago the salesman came round and reckoned he cud keep our bills under 40, then after a year I get my statement showing how much they had actually been forecast versus what I did and now I'm over 500 in debit.
What I wanna know is how they are allowed to sell the pitch of under 40 when all along they knew for our house and family that 70 would be more reasonable.

You fallen for the oldest trick that they play they all do this, then find out your DD were not matching up with your usage

In future read your own meter and tell them that way you dont get into too much debt

Did you receive quarterly statements? You have either used a lot more this winter than you normally would, not built up enough to go towards your winter bill or you were notified by your statements that you were in debit. Most suppliers don't reassess you in the first 12mo unless you phone to provide a meter reading/you ask for a reassessment.

I recently went to Egypt and discovered that the Egyptians are an incredibly honest bunch, you could leave things lying around and you knew that they were quite safe.
However, if an Egyptian could get you to agree to pay 10 times as much as an item was worth, that wasn't dishonesty or a "con" - just that he was a better businessman than you were.

    Gas ripoff - you're a lousy business man !!

You have made the mistake of thinking your monthly payment is the bill,it is not,it is nothing more than an instalment towards your annual bill so if your instalments are too low it will not cover your bill and so you have to catch up later hence your increased payments now

Never change your supplier through a doorstep seller - for the reason you have just found out.

They will always tell you that whoever they represent has the cheapest prices or that you will be paying less per month than through your existing supplier.

It's almost impossible to compare your bill from your new supplier against that for the same period with your old one - most people don't keep that type of record and, if they do, the weather (and so the usage) will be different anyway. By the time you do get a fair comparison (at the end of 12 months) it's too late to do anything about it.
