wrong serial noted....yet insurance company says this is ok?

hi all, I had an accident last week and my camera which is my pride and joy was damaged. On top of feeling sick when it happened I then felt even more sick when i dug up my insurance policy and found i'd written the wrong serial number down when i applied for the policy. I called the claims line twice and both times a polite lady advised me that this was ok, providing i have the original purchase receipt with the serial number for the camera, which i do. the lady advised that she could take her name and make a note which i did, and that the call is recorded. So I shouldn't be worrying, but I am anyway. Do I need to be? Does the fact that I've been advised by the agent hold any water if they try and change their mind once the repair estimate comes in?

I think you are worrying over nothing. It is very easy to make mistakes when applying serial numbers. On some equipment you get a variety of different numbers and sometimes it is not always immediately obvious which is the serial number.
As long as you have proof of ownership and follow the claims process, you should be ok.
Remember that sometimes a nervous person can give out signals that they have something to hide. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -
Thanks very much for your advice, I guess I am worried over nothing as everything ties up with my receipt. Having never claimed for anything before I was worried that the slightest thing would cause invalidation.0

Serial numbers are taken to help in the event of a theft claim so if the camera was recovered they could know its yours etc, they hold no bearing over a damage claim in any way shape or form.
To be honest if you hadnt mentioned it they probably wouldnt even cross referance it. Definately worrying over nothing0
