Freeholder appoints a managing company on self managing leaseholders

Hi everyone
My question is can a freeholder suddenly appoint a managing company to apply a service charge and day to day running of a block (converted house not a large block) without any consultation or warning. If the block has been self managed for years without issue and the residents have not requested this, can the freeholder suddenly impose this especially if it is against the wishes of the majority?
Thanks for any advice...

I'm no expert on this, but having been through the process of appointing a managing agent in our block recently would have thought not!
Have you looked at www.lease-advice.org
Have you previously been formally organised in to a company to self-manage your block? With ours everything had been informal but the freeholder demanded a named Managing Agent along with fire certificates, asbestos certificates and a number of other things that we couldn't easily produce by ourselves so we were pushed in to finding an alternative. Even then a majority from the block had to agree the appointment.0 -
What does it say in your lease? We're not psychic so can't answer!0

What do you mean by the block self-managed (a building being an inanimate object)? Do you mean the freeholder has previously managed without the aid of an agent? Or do you mean the leaseholders had formally exercised their Right to Manage? Or do you mean there was an informal approach to management?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

yes, absolutely the freeholder can and now watch your management charges go through the roof. The residents could get together and buy the freehold, as we have just done and then they can manage themselves and be completely in charge of their own destiny
you form a company, one share per property and go from there.0
