hi everyone i have bought a mulit fuel stove which I love. now for Q for the harthe can I tile on top of wooden floor or do i have to lift some of the wood flooring before tiling thanks :beer:

    The hearth must comply to HETAS regs. I'm sure you can find some guidance on line but I don't have a URL.

    IIRC the hearth must be at least 9" in front of the stove, be 6" either side and be at least 1" thick. Tiling a hearth onto a wooden floor would NOT be sufficient unless you want a house fire!

    The usual practice would be to have a piece of 2" slate cut to the size you require and then bed this in place. Older properties actually have hearths set into the floor, often supported by extra joists or masonery.

    I would go and speak to the supplier of your stove for this, or a fireplace and stove specialist. They will have all the answers.
