  • Hi tinka i truly know how soul destroying taxiing can be. like your oh mine did it a couple of years ago part time to supplement own business and it was horrific. chasing his tail just to make the weigh in, which was extortionate. going out night shift and sitting for long periods waiting on hire. Your best advice would be to get hubby a job, an Employed job, doesnt matter what it is, he will be so relived to be working regular hours and getting a wage, your stress levels can do without this! You will automatically save if you get rid of the car, or change the insurance back to private use, we did that no problem with ours, and saved over £100 per month. I know you've got lots more problems to deal with, but that has to be a start, Good luck to you and your family, i;ll keep watching....

    Hello Tinka.

I live in Hampshire and my taxi drivers (who take me to work/ shops) when i am unwell say the same things. Money is very tight due to stinky recession.

I can't help with the complicated legal stuff but i have saved money through MSE by:

    dropping brands at shop
    not buying lunch at work
ebaying cds - so far i have made £30
    swapping energy providers
ringing cable provider and threatening to leave as it was so expensive
keeping a spending diary to reduce spending.

all this in a month. I dont know if it will help you but i want you to know you are not alone.

Lots of other people are going through similar at the moment. i hope someone is able to offer some wisdom and comfort to you. Remember everyone on this site is here as they have felt worried about finance.

I hope you are ok. I will think of you. good luck.

You might not lose the house if you go BR. The house is worth approx £82k, and the mortgage is £68k. Is the secured loan of £10k secured on the property? That would mean the beneficial interest in your property would be 82-68-10 = 4k that the Official Receiver would be interested in.

You would be able to make an offer to purchase the beneficial interest of £4k from the OR and keep your house.

But get an up to date property valuation, as it might be worth slightly less than 82k. If it was in negative equity that you would be able to buy the beneficial interest for £1 + solicitor costs of approx £200.

The car on HP would be safe as it's not a asset. The only time the OR would be interested is if the car is worth more than the HP outstanding. The only issue is that some HP agreements have bankruptcy clauses in them.

Please seek advice from one of the free debt charities and then pop over to the BR board if you decide to go down that route.
  • I second the other poster reassuring you about your kids. It's only society telling you they need brand new this, brand new that.

I speak as the child of very poor parents. I hate to do the "when I were young...." thing BUT yeah, I know now that my parents went without evening meals so me and my brother could eat. We had one pair of shoes a year. And at Christmas and birthdays we were allowed to choose a 2 litre bottle of fizzy pop. I remember going to someone's house, being offered lemonade, and asking whose birthday it was... :-)

And I loved my childhood. It was ace. I missed out on NOTHING real. I loved going out with my dad (he had two jobs, was self employed as a builder on evenings/weekends - I went with him to work to "help" otherwise i wouldn't see him) and I liked the responsibility of peeling the potatoes when I got home from school, before mum got home.

It seems to me that feeling guilty is the default state of all parents, but honestly - you're not going to damage your kids through lack of money, only lack of care and love. So you'll be ok.

In your SOA ..you have sky tv...yet nothing for DHS fuel and rent....if your SOA contains all the money coming in..it needs to contain all the money going out.

I didn't include fuel and rent because that is already deducted off his earnings for example in one week he might earn say £400 but once his rent and fuel costs are accounted for he only comes out with about £160. If that makes sense. Its madness because when he started out 3 years ago he would bring home £500 a week and it was a great!

We are tied into virgin so can't cancel completely but I will ring and try and get the price down. Also got about a year left on each of the mobile phones so not a lot I can do there at the minute.

I have sold everything possible on ebay and amazon already at the beginning of the year and do the surveys etc.

I have applied for more jobs then I care to mention in the last couple of months but never hear anything but I will keep trying regardless. Oh's only skill really is driving and he has applied for other driving jobs but still the same story of not hearing anything back.

I already claim tax credits and we aren't entitled to anything else.

Also I had some court papers through this morning, I think it is for an old overdraft for £700 so that is something else to add in the mix.

I'm in the process of trying to ring the mortgage company which is not going well as it has been constantly engaged for the last hour

Before you respond to these, please can you come back here and get advice?

It may be possible to fight this.

Well got through to the mortgage company and they will let us pay £200 a month for the next 3 months which is half of what they originally wanted and i managed to pay them £100 today and just need pay the other £100 by the end of the month. At least i know the house will be ok for at least the next couple of months.

Well done for getting that sorted out.

Can you get OH to have another go at getting employment?

I find at the moment that a lot of jobs are just being advertised on premises doors and windows, not in ads or the JC.

  • Hi have just been reading your thread and am hoping I might be able to help.

You mentioned you've been applying for jobs but not getting anywhere. Have you tried working for yourself? I work 21 hours a week but I also sell Avon to supplement my income, and the extra money i make from my commission goes towards my debt, or if i have some extra left over it goes towards things for my son like clothes etc.

It might be worth logging onto the Avon website www.avon.uk.com and getting more details. Hope this helps. And btw you are not a bad mother. Your kids love you no matter what, they're not bothered about money, all they need is love and cuddles from their parents x
