Mortgage application to offer - how long?

Just applied for my mortgage this afternoon, they will be sending documents out for us to sign and return with payslips etc which we will do immediately. Generally how long will it take to receive our mortgage offer, just starting to panic a bit now as we need to exchange by 17th May.

Depends on lender and how busy they are - give them a call and ask.

Well they know when we need to exchange, and they said they'd liase with our solicitors and the builders and it shouldn't be a problem. I'm just panicing cause I remember it seemed to take an age last time.

I guess it depends on which bank you are borrowing from. with HSBC, we applied in branch with all our documents on a Wed afternoon (1st April), heard nothing the following Wed, so emailed the mortgage manager in HSBC, the offer came through on Sat 10th... so I was just wondering if that little push helped. BUT the address on the mortgage offer was wrong!! so had to call them up and ask them to send us a new one anyway.

Suppose to exchange our contract this coming Fri, but because of this problem we asked the developer if we could postpone the exchange date. So now the exchange date is a week later.

so maybe give them a call a week later just to follow up or to check which stage they are at.

Yeah, I'll do that. Did your builder have any problem putting the exchange date back at all?
