Paying to remove neighbours overhead cables?

Anybody have similar experiences of overhead power line removal?

My situation is that we have an overhead electricity supply to our house from a wooden pole over the road, we also have the neighbour's cable which goes to our chimmney, over the roof and across the back of our house to his house. Looks a mess!
Just spoken to EDF abut the situation who want to visit and quote us for resite. Umm I don't want a resite, I want rid of cables that aren't mine!
Do home owners have rights to give notice to remove? or could I attempt a charging rent option?
All because the neigbour didn't want cables on his chimmney!! Fine I'll have them all over my house then ;)
Any thoughts, experiences would be greatly appreciated before I get all hot headed and make a fool of myself....

Failing that maybe someone could summon up an almighty wind storm ;)
Thanks

We had a similar situation with a neighbour's gas meter on our property. They had to go into our back garden every time they wanted to top it up. Transco were initially no help so we actually took it to our local MP. Transco seemed to take a little more interest once he got involved and decided that this installation could be moved on the grounds that the meter was obsolete.

Didnt this occur to you when you were about to buy the house
  • You are well within your rights to get the other person's service removed from your property. Write a letter to the wayleaves department of your local electricity supplier stating that they are unsightly and not required to supply your own electricity. Ask for them to be removed.

Not your "local electricity supplier" they have nothing to do with cables and poles you mean the "local electricity distributor". You can find out who they are by checking on you bill or by the 1st 2 digits of your Meter Point Admin Number.
