Just awarded DLA for son and informes tax credit

Hi. Ive just been awared the middle rate care allowance for my son as he has an illness. When I contacted the Tax credit to inform them they said they will pass the information on to a different office to deal with it and also gave me a Newcastle telephone number. Has this happened to anyone else or is it just a problem with my claim?? Im worried because you hear so many horror stories of people having their tax credits stopped or be suspended whilst they verify information.Thanksxx

I have to say first off that I know nothing about tax credits, however saying that I was told I would qualify for tax credit for my son when he started getting dla. Hopefully others will beable to give you info but as a possibility is it because you can claim more credit because he's now receiving dla than you previously got.

Again as I say I dont understand tax credits at all, but I can tell you thats what I was told. Your circumstances are different maybe as I wasnt already claiming tax credits, but this may just be the reason :)

I think the rates difer slightly ( in your favour) if your son is classed as disabled. Usually the DLa office notify Tax credit offcie too, and they will update your claim - I am sure it is nothing to worry about at all. Have you tried the HMRC website so see how much you are entitled, when you change the dets to child being disabled.

It ususally increases your award if you are claiming for someone who is registered disabled - if you try the HMRC website you can find out how much difference it will make to your claim. Normally the DLA office automatically tell the CTC office so they can update your claim. I am sure it is nothing to worry about at all.

    Jackmark.

My daughter was awarded dla at the same rate as your son . when i telephoned tax credits to tell them that she had been awarded the dla they told me that they would have to inform another office .

The disability premium for a disabled child is £2700 (approx) per year on top of your usual amount of tax credits.

When you got notification that your son had been sucessful in his claim for dla , when did your entitlment to the dla begin ? What date has he been awarded dla from ?

Tax credits tell you that they can only back date the disability premium for 3 months but if you appeal this decision then you will be back paid to the very day your son became entitled to the dla.
