Hello.
FTB, who has got the nod for the sale to go through on 11th August.
Can anyone direct me to any sites with checklists for what to remember before, during and after the move?
We are moving from rented (extra two weeks paid), to an empty house (the owners died), so we are in a good situation. Additionally, it is only five minutes drive away. Also, we have to transport a very nervous cat. I predict a cat/ human riot.

Well, I seem to remember that when we got our last Mortgage offer a list of things to remember came with it.
You could try googling "house moving list" or something to see if one comes up for you.
Good luck by the way, I hope you will be happy in your new place.0 -
Oh, the very nervous cat - speak to your vet about some mild tranquilisers for her and keep her in as much as you can when you get to the new house so that she knows it is home. But Im sure your vet will be able to give you some good advice.0

my nan used to say that if you put butter on their paws, then they will find their way home. Probably an old wives tale and I'm sure your kitty would'nt appreciate dollops of butter on his feet :rotfl:0 -

How long has it taken from start to finish?0 -
Two months from start to finish, which is like supersonic. Just an update. My landlady has agreed to let my GFs sister take over the lease at a very good mates rate, so theres a touch.hechizero wrote:How long has it taken from start to finish?
GF called all the utilities yesterday, and there will be a transition phase, but seeing as the new place is mostly unused, and the old place will be passed over smoothly, I'm not to worried.
The cat is still a problem, and I may see if he can stay here for a few days after the move."Don't critisise what people look like, how they speak, where they are from, and what they are called. They cannot help it.

I was in a similar situation in terms of moving house with a nervous cat in tow back in November. It's being in a car that totally freaks him out - starts wailing and hyperventilating! Anyway, we were also only moving 5 minutes. What we did was shut him in the day before the move. Then the day of the move we shut him in the kitchen (which had already been cleared out) while all the boxes were piled into the removal van. Finally we put cat in basket and into our car and drove straight to the house. I think it helped that we put him on the front passenger seat so he could see one of us. When we got there the owner was just leaving so we waited a short time with cat in the garden and then shut him in one of the bedrooms with some food, water and a litter tray while we moved in. It worked out really well - the moving part was so quick that he really didn't get that stressed out. We kept him in for a couple of weeks afterwards and then had the awful day of letting him out for the first time - he went straight over the fence which was a bit of a concern at the time as we thought we'd never see him again! Good luck!0

Oooh, I'm going to be transporting my cat - he's not too bad in the car but only had him in the car for about 30 mins max - this move will be at least 3 hours, more likely 4 or 5 hours in the car....how do I go about this?Proud DFW Nerd #62
