Charge too much with faulty electric meter

I have a four bedroom house which i bought in 2006 where I live with my wife and two toddlers. We dont have tumble driers or other high electric useage appliances. I had been getting estimated bills at the beginning but recently started to give meter readings. the bills with the metered readings have been astronomical. So i queried this with the supplier and they sent an engineer to the house to put a meter monitor to check my existing meter. After 33 days of the check meter being installed we found out that my own meter ran over 7 units compared the supplier check meter. i know its not a lot but since i bought the house over 4yrs ago. It could well mean that i have been paying too much. the supplier has said that the discrepancy is not large enough to warrant a claim. i want to know where i stand. Is there anywhere i could go for advice to stop these huge bills or where i can dispute the meter discrepancy.
Many thanks.

7 units extra over 33 days is approx 77 units a year or about £8.50. So that doesn't explain your 'astronomical' bill increase.
The reason your bill is now much higher is probably that the earlier bills were estimated, so you are now playing 'catch up' as you have built up some debt, as you did not submit meter readings from the outset.
If the bills are now in line with what the meter says you are using, then (given that your meter has been found to be fairly accurate) that is about all you can do, other than reduce your usage, assuming you are already on the most economic tariff.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
