Can anyone recommend me a free software program to edit photos / make a card? Thanks!

Hi :D

I don't usually do stuff like this very often so when I have looked on my pc the only software I can seem to find that does it is Arcsoft Photo Impression 4 which is not that great! :(

Can anyone recommend me anything free that I can download or use online?

Thanks! :)

  • How complicated is the stuff you're doing?

There is an open source Photoshop-alike called Gimp, but it may be more advanced than you're looking for.

    Thanks!

It's quite basic really.....although I have an ok knowledge of powerpoint so I may download Gimp for future use?

would you still suggest it for doing this basic job or something else?
  • Gimp is great, but has a similar learning curve to Photoshop so may be a bit time consuming to get started with. Worth downloading and having a play around with to see how you get on though.

How about Picasa for photo editing? Really simple to use if you're just retouching photos.
  • In terms of card making (I'm assuming you mean greetings cards?) you could do worse than PagePlus for something free.

I use Picasa for editing and organizing my photos. Cards can be made easily in MS Publisher if you have it or Word.

    Oh HELL!!

So I have managed to do what I wanted on gimp, which is quite complicated (I did a night class on desk top publishing many moons ago so bit rusty but came in handy...!!)

However when I go to print it will not seem to talk to my epson printer not had this problem with anything else?

So if I do file print it shows my printer lets me select it and lets me change the preferences to photo paper, best quality etc. But when I click print then it keeps crashing everytime...and I get the message "print.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close......."

    Any ideas folks?

Don't know - from searching around Windows printing support in GIMP looks a bit iffy - http://registry.gimp.org/node/11864

How about saving it as a common image file (say TIF or JPEG) and then using another program like Windows Photo Viewer to print it?

I posted at the weekend, trying to find something to make flyers, menus etc, the free PagePlus also suggested by triggerhappy, certainly looks promising.
    Move along, nothing to see.
