Kwik fit brake lifetime guarantee - really?

I cant quite believe kwik fit will guarantee any work on your brakes for the lifetime of the car.

Could someone please tell me what the catch is?

To me, the catch is that when the brakes fail, that's their life time finished. Nothing to do with the car. What is the exact wording of the advert?
  • The catch is that you have to take it back to them and allow them to do all recommended work when they fail.

So you buy brake pads. The brake pads fail. You take it back and are advised to claim on the guarentee you also need new discs, calipers, brake service, suspension parts etc etc

so for every time you get a £40 set of brake pads you will undoubtadly be recommended further repairs of a significant value.

That's what I thought it'd be when I was thinking about this today - every time you get pads fitted you'll "need" discs too. :rotfl:

Just save yourself some money and get a decent set of pads, shoes, discs or whatever when the need arrises. Why would you need a guarantee on something that should last 50k?, unless it won't.. Their waranties are based on the assumption that you will have sold the car before the wty runs out, and it is nontransferrable, so they win;), but not if we keep the pressure up.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

    yeah stay away

decent brakes fitted by a honest garage will last long enough not to have to worry about too much

Kwik Fit quote for new pads and discs all round after their "brake check" £450. Quotes so far from independents £250-300

Component value, on most vehicles, is not really that expensive, when KwikFit have all their buying power discounts taken into account.

The 'offer', is genuine & would mean they'll have little worry about customers that DO go back & of course, it means another potential sale of tyres etc, if your in need of them.

Disc pads these days are made from quite a hard abrasive material, which in turn give the discs quite a hard time during operation.

What this means is, you'll probably find that when the pads fitted by Kwik Fit have worn out and are ready for their 'free' replacement, the discs have also been worn down to a point whereby they also need replacing (or at least have developed a sufficient enough lip for the Kwik Fitter to point to with a sharp intake of breath, 'justifying' a probably still unnecessary replacement).

    Ker-ching!

Might be worth looking into what's involved with replacing the pads (and discs for that matter) yourself. For many people it's a scary prospect, tampering with your car's braking system, but pad and disc changes are quite difficult to do wrong. And the amount of money you'd be saving is astonishing.
