Advice needed

I have had somone buy my psp on ebay, he is a zero rated buyer, but I put on my ebay preferences that 0 rated buyers can buy if they have a credit card on file with ebay, he has already paid me via paypal and I have talked to him on his mobile phone and he seems genuine

I am just a bit dubious about him doing a chargeback and trying to scam me, I am obviously sending to him by special delivery but his address is not confirmed

Would you be concerned he did seem very genuine on the telephone

Thanks All

All 0 rated buyers are a cause for concern but I guess everyone has to start someone.

Make sure you send the item to the address stated on PayPal. By sending the item special delivery you are protecting yourself as best you can.

If you decide to pull out of the sale, be aware that the buyer can you report you to eBay as a non performing seller and leave negative feedback.

Right, if the credit card transaction is fradulent (stolen or clonned etc) then no amount of confirmed addresses or special delviery will save your money.

Have you checked https://www.192.com?? You have address, so search on there for a name. If its nothing like what you have, walk.

Personally - I would never sell to someone with a 0 or even low rating, such a high value item (unless it was cash on collection).

As hes address is unconfirmed you are not normally covered for fraudulent chargebacks so if you send you take the risk.

To my knowledge I didn't think anyone was or could be covered for fraudulent card transactions.

I have checked his name and address with 192.com and all seems in order, he seemed genuine on the telephone and explained that he was nervous too being a zero rated buyer. Think I will stick to selling lower value items in the future!!!

Could I ask what sort of price you got for it - as I have a brand new psp value pack with world soccer game that I am about to sell on ebay - have been checking prices but they seem to vary quite a bit?

I sold it for £200 but it is one of the rarer versions and it came with a 1 gig card and 2 games and a carry case, I have emailed the buyer and ask if he can confirm his address with paypal which will enable me for seller protection
  • You shouldn't take Paypal if you are worried about this sort of thing.

State in your auction that payment is by cheque or Postal Order. Wait for a cheque to clear before posting the item!

get his LANDLINE phone number, then you're a little safer, and it's easier to chase him should the worst happen

personally, I wouldn't do it. but, put a spin on it, most people would advise to pay by paypal for such a large amount

look at a few things......his email addy is a good un, is it a throwaway?, i.e. hotmail, yahoo.....or is it a propper one that is provided by an ISP, i.e. pipex. ntl, etc

again that makes him easier to hunt down

google his ebay ID and / or full name / address, does it show?
