Frozen Account-access???

Kit is correct. Banks will only close the account on the say so of both holders. That is why abbey need to give an explanation for their actions.0

At my bank either party can do anything on a joint account unless the bank are aware of a dispute. Both parties have to agree to freeze an account, if one doesnt agree it doesnt get frozen. Once the freeze is on neither party can access the account and it can only be closed with both parties permission. Agreement must be obtained re the funds in it at closure as well. Not sure if all banks are the same but hope this might help a bit.0

That is my understanding of joint accounts with my bank which is abbey. That is why I think the account holder in question has been given the wrong information at the start and why I am adamant that abbey should be asked to explain why they have closed the account.0 -
Thanks so much for all the replies guys, all I can say about the situation is I am SO glad it is not me involved. I think this whole episode(which remains unresolved) has made my neighbour realise she needs to reassess her realtionship with said huband as he still has(well had) this bank acc with ex wife no.1 and is still married to ex wife no.2. It seems as though shes a bit scared to question his "authority" as he is quite a few years (17) older than her.
My advice to her has been to make sure she opens a bank acc in only her name just to give her a tiny bit of indepence. She doesnt need to hide it form him or anything. I am hoping it will help to teach her to be more self reliant. Am also helping out with budgeting now too.
I dont know whether this bank malarky will ever be sorted out, but your advice has given them both something to go on with.
Thanks again,

Well, who knows, he might still have joint accounts with wife no.2 (why did you call her ex wife no.2, they are still married!) Hey, how about tell your neighbour to get a joint account with her bf, just in case for the future use...0

I suppose that cad of a neighbour. might have to do some explaining. Could he have been a bit "economical with the actualite"?.Bossyboots wrote:I am adamant that abbey should be asked to explain why they have closed the account.
How many wives, ex-wives (and assorted bank accounts) does he string along?0
