Cheap ferry crossing to france?

Can't believe how expensive ferry crossings are to France! Does anyone have any good ideas as to how to bring the cost of a car and 2 adults down? Either from Dover or Portsmouth?

What have you been quoted and when do you want to go?

  • Everything I've looked at is over £100, £150 in some cases.

Am looking for a Monday - Friday in August (any dates). Live in West Sussex so anywhere from Dover, Nehaven or Portsmouth really. Haven't got an actual destination in France yet, but would rather drive for a long time in France than be on a ferry for 6hours!

If you go to the speedferries site, put in your dates it will give you a selection of times for that day with the corresponding fares next to each sailing. Be careful as it sometimes gives the day before and after too so make sure you select the right day.

Try Speedferries or Norfolk line - both around £50 return. Went with Norfolk line in March - brand new ferry, lovely food at very reasonable price. Going with Speedferries on October.

cheap ferries/eurotunnel are available when you don't want to use them like 2am. if you can cope with this everyone is cheap. If however you want to travel at the most convenient times fo0r you then you'll pay the price.

  • If you're going for a day trip you can go for either 19 or 24 pounds for a car and up to 5 people depending on the time you go. This is with P&O. (Dover to Calais) There's already a thread about it somewhere in the forum - if you quote 'the news of the world' when you book over the phone, you can get cheap fares subject to availability.
