I have had a email from a creditor saying that they are within their rights to contact me by phone. I have already written to them and emailed them and asked for correspondance in writing only I have used the letter recommended by Fermi on here.Where do I stand with this please, does anyone know. I have no intention of speaking to them on the phone anyway but I would like to stop the phonecalls, I have not been in the best of health and can not cope with it.Its going to be aroundsixweeks before I will be bankcrupt.sonnyboy0

Callywally, just wanted to send you a big hug and bump this for you.
I recall some folk have been able to get their phone numbers changed for free, hopefully someone will be along with more advice soon.
I have an answerphone I can hear so if I don't want to answer it I ignore it - it can be frustrating but please try to not to let it get you down as you're in control by choosing if you want to answer, or not.
If it gets too much just turn your phone off/unplug it to give yourself some quiet time till you feel less stressed, who says you have to be at the beck & call of the d**m thing anyways :rotfl:
I mark any email as spam and completely ignore it - all my creditors have been told in the past I never respond to unsolicited phone calls or emails - so if they want to waste their time so be it.
I know it's hard but the time will pass quick enough and you'll be on the next stage of your journey

It's the same for me with the calls, Barclaycard even wrote me a letter back saying they couldnt stop the calls because they would need a way to contact me. They have also started calling my work again and I have had to put the phone down on them twice. Santander have sent me a nasty letter and started calling, Cahoot passed over my loan to Santander. Just a question - how long does this go on for? I have missed 4 Cahoot payments and 2 Barclaycard/Santander. I still havent enough for the fees and am worried that people may start knocking on my door or coming to my work.0

Thats what I did and they get all stroppy and hang up. I told them they could be anyone as far as I was concerned so did not confirm DOB. Calls eased off after that and those I did get just followed the same procedure with the same result.
Stops the stress as well as YOU are in control of the call and when it ends

Thanks for replys, its really the calls at work that are the worst as If they call there I get called in to the office by a supervisor and have to speak to them in front of the supervisor which is embarassing and I get told off for having personal calls at work which is not allowed.the ones at home I can hang up or ignore andI can have mobile on silent etc. its the ones at work that are causing me problems.I sent the letter asking for contact in writing only but it seems they dont have to do this, I cant ignore the calls at work and they are going to cause me trouble. is thereanything else I can do?sonnyboy0

On the letter I got from Barclaycard, they pretty much said the calls would continue until answered and outstanding money cleared so you'd no longer be on the call centre database. They are meant to harass you into calling your creditor and pay up. Can you tell your employers your situation and ask them to refuse to take them for you? Long shot I know. Mine are coming through on my direct line (dont know how they got it), and I'm not allowed to take personal calls. They are now calling on secure lines so I cant see the number and pick up - I've had to put the phone down on them, its a open office and I cant take personal calls. I'm scared to answer calls sometimes, but I'm a PA so have to.0

I dont have a direct line and I really dont want people at work to know whats going on. I thought that we are within our rights to get a least phone calls at work stopped.I will not discuss anything with them on phone anyway and there is no way I will ring them back so they are wasting their time anyway. Is their some one you can complain to about this, I realise they are going to contact me, and that is fair enough, but surely they shpould not haress you at work if you have asked them not to.sonnyboy0

I think the call centres will do whatever necessary until your name/number gets off their database. They don't know (or care) if its home landline or work number I guess, most are based overseas and based on commission. They won't care, and it's the creditors who are passing on the info to them, and they clearly don't care about the harrassment element.0

Thanks for reply, they really dont seem to take notice of any letters etc, I dont know what I can do about the phone calls at work. A s I dont want anyone to know whats happening at work, i didnt want to tell anyone.sonnyboy0
