H i, new to the site, but by the looks of it I need it!lol! I recnently joined up to total fitness in Huddersfield. They had an offer if you joined online, £348 for the year, no joining fee and pay nothing till May. I had to ut a promotional code 'springsale' in as advertised on their website to get this offer. Seen as I've put on some weight I thought I'd get joined up as would have enough money by the May payment. Looked at my bank account and they took £348 straight out of my bank account! I have bills coming out of my account this month which will push me totally overdrawn now they have just taken the money! What can I do? I rung Huddersfield and they acknowledge that they had taken the money, but said my confirmation says I'm committed to no joing fee and paying £348. The confirmation isn't sent through to your email until AFTER you have joined..and does not state when the money is being taken. Obviously because the offer said MAy, thats when I assumed it would be taken. They said theres nothing they can do! just ring head office if I want to complain! So I'm ringing them today but I need this money back! What can I do?

Did you take a screenshot of the offer? I usually do with Microsoft One Note.0

Get it back under the Direct Debit guarantee. Write to them and tell them what you have done and why. You may need proof of the offer to show to your bank.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I think it was a one off payment and not a direct debit.
I had a look at the website and there was no mention of the offer the OP has stated, (buy now pay may) entered the code and it wasn't recognised so perhaps the OP has got it wrong?0 -

By the looks of the OP it is a one time lump sum, not a direct debit.0 -
Obviously because the offer said MAy, thats when I assumed it would be taken.
Sorry to sound harsh but this is where you have gone wrong, you assumed something and didn't check it out fully.
I would imagine that if you read the smallprint somewhere that it says the money will be taken immediately. Unless you can find something that says it won't be taken until May, you can't do much about it other than cancel under your consumer rights (if it is within the cooling-off period). But I imagine you will lose out on the deal if you cancel now.You do have rights......but you still need common sense.0 -
You need a screen shot proving that it stated the money wouldn't be taken until May, then send it to them, and let them know that unless they immediately refund your £348 and take it in May, then they will also be responsible for any bank charges you receive.
As you booked this online, you might be entitled to cancel under the 7 day cooling off period - i'd certainly do this if they won't immediately refund your money!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
I think the OP has misunderstood the offer.
The offer clearly means you get until May free. This is different from not paying for it until May.
Otherwise everyone would join then quit come May. I will be it is in the terms too.0 -
A quick look at their website and the checkout system quite clearly shows that it has a sum payable immediately and then monthly payments.
My suggestion is the OP took his own meaning and ignored what was right in front of him. I.e amount payable today £348.0 -
