I have the usual UK b/down cover but am planning a few trips to Euroland this year and thought the prices quoted from RAC/AA seemed a bit pricy !
Anyone know if i can get cover from a European breakdown service ? in maybe belguim/holland/france ? after all we r all supposed to be one now !

  • Britannia offer UK breakdown & European assist from £130. It is heavily discounted if you have/can get a membership to the CSMA club.

AA do a 14 day money back guarantee if you don't claim. Might be worth taking out the cover, then cancelling when you return if you didn't have to make a call out.

    From one of the newspapers.......

"For people who spend long periods in Europe there is a useful alternative to the main British companies in the shape of German outfit ADAC.
For around £47 you can buy the ADACPlus policy which gives cover for the whole of Europe - including the UK. It covers the driver and spouse to drive any car and can be booked on its website in English. The admin people speak good English and all claims staff are multilingual.
If you are not that brave, most other companies offer annual policies, but you'll pay much more than £47.
Go to adac.de. It looks frightening if you can't speak German, but press the "Join Adac" button and it switches into English."

Looks like that's what you need

CSMA membership is only available if you have been an employee of the Civil Service or an organisation that was once part of the Civil Service - or you are introduced by a parent, child or sibling of an existing member.

The cost is £15 per year but it includes motoring legal expenses cover for you and your spouse.

You can incorporate Britannia Rescue as an additional amount. A package including membership, cover for one vehicle anywhere in Europe and two of us in any vehicle anywhere in the UK and Republic of Ireland including roadside, at home, recovery, emergency car hire/accommodation cost us £114 this year.

The battery failed one morning in a village in the Black Forest and they sent an ADAC rep.

The ADAC information seems to be out of date.

There is information (in English) here, though.

don't know, it's just a clipping I had from when I was looking for cover.

From what I remember the plus package is equivalent to the top end AA/RAC ones but also includes cover Europe wide and so will replace your normal UK breakdown cover.

Looking at the web site English doesn’t seem to be easy to get to but it is there because I’ve seen it previously but with the assistance of my linguistically talented OH.

I did find a phone number 0049 1805 101112 so might be worth giving them a ring.

Any idea what this outfit are like?

Regarding ADAC, I've just been reading this:
    http://www.pistonheads.com/GASSING/topic.asp?h=0&f=23&t=752904&nmt=ADAC%20Membership%20In%20The%20UK%20-%20Exclusions%20?

Towing in the UK might be expensive, even though they'll transport you back from the continent as part of the package.
    Happy chappy
