Beaded Keyring Gifts

Hi folks

I'm looking to make a number of these style of keyrings:

keyfobs.jpg

I don't want to sell them, I want to make them as stocking fillers for family at Christmas

I have found the letter beads, but I have no idea what the cord is made from, or how the little popper on the end works

I just wondered if anyone else had made these and could advise either how they are made or where I can get the supplies and I will figure it out

Thanks :)

Th cords just look like normal ribbons to me, not sure what the little popper at the end is though but will do some digging around :)

ETA: I think they're just press studs, like in this picture: http://www.nfauto.co.uk/images/feb06/press_stud_kit.jpg

The eyelet/press stud kits are very easy to use. I used one years ago and you just put each side of the stud in either end of the plastic bit and then sandwich the two ends of your ribbon in between and hit it with a hammer. That is clear as mud but hope you get some sort of murky picture.

I have seen them now - described as 'decorative snaps' in some places

Can you recommend somewhere I can buy them please? I can only find the large sizes :-s

I'm thinking I need 5mm ones or thereabouts

    Well I am getting there...slowly

So far have worked out I need grosgrain ribbon (had never heard of it before lol)
Pony beads - have found some nice pearl effect ones
    Split rings - got

Just these flipping 4 part press studs I can't get a hold of at a reasonable cost....it's 8mm ones I need

I WILL get these made this month :rotfl:

*Louise* - I've just shamelessly nicked your idea! :o
I had some beads from when DD was little, and have just made a keyring for my friend. I'll take a pic and post it if I remember to buy batteries while I'm out. I've used a grosgrain ribbon that I've had for a while (a cheap roll from Hobbycraft), and used a crop-a-dile to punch the holes and affix 4mm eyelets.
some people grin and bear it, others smile and do it :)

Forgive me for being a bit of a numpty in most things..........but what is grosrain ribbon ? Not heard of it before..............couldn't I use normal ribbon as long as it goes through the beads ok ?

Not that I've got any of the beads with letters on but was thinking of having a go with some beads from an old necklace.....the chunky sort.
