Warranty (postage costs)

Options
I recently returned a faulty computer part under warranty, they have replaced the item and it is working fine.
But I'm out of pocket for the returning the device and was wondering if it's within my rights to ask them to reimburse me for the postage costs?

Yes it is. If the part was indeed faulty then the retailer has to cover all costs, including your return postage cost. Get back on to them.

    incorrect.

warranty is over and above your statutory rights - your are bound by the terms and conditions contained within it - if it says your liable for postage then your liable for postage! get checking those t&c's....

Possibly. However, I don't think we have enough information here to determine what happened in fact.

You're right, I missed the bit about the warranty. Had the OP returned computer to the retailer under the Sale of Goods Act then he would have been entitled to a refund of the postage costs.

    Yep...
    Retailer - they pay postage
Manufacturer - you pay postage unless they state otherwise
  • After waiting over 12 days for a reply from the retailer they came back to me and said I would have to return the Item to the manufacturer.
I was sick of them wasting so much time getting back to me and just wanted the faulty part replaced so I went ahead and sent it back to the manufacturer.
Should they have accepted the return instead of insisting that I return it to the manufacturer?
I had the part for about a year is that over the limit that the retailer has to accept the return?

This is a quote from the manufacturers t&c's.
Customer is responsible for returning the product to Crucial at the Customer's risk and expense.
So it seems like I'll just have to live with having paid the postage costs.

How long did you have it? Just because you are responsible vis a vis the manufacturer doesn't necessarily mean that you cannot claim the cost against the retailer if you followed their direction.
  • I had it for about 12 months.
  • How much was the postage then?
