Simplicity Sandon or Elite Compact Greenhouse

Decided to buy a greenhouse for down the side of the house (south facing) only prob is we are limited to a max width of 4ft 6". The only two greenhouses we can find that fit our requirements are the Simplicity Sandon and the Elite Compact. OH is leaning towards the Simplicity wereas I think the Elite might be better. Does anyone out there have experience of either of them?

Thanks

6' x 4' is a standard greenhouse size and there should be loads available in that size.

Both the Greenhouses in the pics are the same but one comes with a plastic covering you stick on, the other comes with polycarbonate panels...

All 6'x4' The double sliding doors are good allows you to wheel a wheelbarrow straight in most others are single doors.

Thanks ixwood and balloo, We've obviously not been looking enough! We're after toughened glass and need a reasonably substantial frame as the side of the house acts like a wind tunnel at times! All the ones we've seen locally and on the net (will need to do more research) have started at 6ft x 6ft

Have you considered a lean-to? That might open up your options a little?

I've just put an Elite lean-to (with toughened glass) in the wind tunnel down the side of my house, and it's very sturdy. But as it's the only greenhouse I've ever owned, I'm not sure whether my opinion counts for much!

Hi Laurel, a lean-to was our first option but we were advised against it because the house is built from stone bricks and the walls are uneven. What's the frame like on your Elite lean-to? Is the aluminium fairly sturdy or does it bend easily?

It's pretty sturdy. There was some flex in it before the frame was fixed to the ground and the glass went in, but it's a very, very different beast to, say, the cheap ones with plastic panels they sell in B&Q.

My dad had a 6'x4' lean-to thats what "he had to have" and when it came and we put it up he hated it he said there was no room in it even tho it was a 6'x4' but the 6' was the width and the 4' was the length so off he went to B&Q and bought a 6'x6' free standing one now he is happy and i am :j

There is little to choose between the Elite and Simplicity in terms of strength and construction. The main difference is that the Elite compact now has a 'low threshold', which is a lowered section at floor level where the doors are.
You are quite correct that there are only 2 UK manufacturers of 4ft wide greenhouses, ie with door/s in the 4ft gable-end side. There are now some imports appearing in a limited range of sizes, and I see that Robinsons are also making a 4x4 model.
