Vietnamese Dong - getting it changed in the UK?

Hey,
My Girlfriend and I have just got back from SE Asia where we were working as volunteer teachers for a couple of months, we made the mistake of bringing back a reasonable quantity of Vietnamese Dong though (with the expectation that we could change them to Stirling in the Post Office) only to find that it's not possible.
Does anyone know of anywhere in the UK that will buy Vietnamese Dong at a reasonable rate? Any help on this would be much appreciated!
Many thanks,
Adam.

One possibility is a Vietnamese restaurant (or shop) if there is one in their area0

It's a wonder that the title of your post got through the "decency" filter :rotfl::rotfl:0

Vietnamese Dong isn't convertible - it's not hard currency. So you won't find any financial institutions selling/buying it.
You could try Lonely Plant Thorn Tree, or maybe Ebay?0 -
As has been stated before, Vietnamese Dong is a closed currency.
Your best bet is to look for someone travelling there who will change it for you, but i think you wont get a good rate and many would be wary of buying foreign currency, afterall it could be dodgy for all they know (not saying you're a cheat or anything - but you never know who is out there):jProud mummy to a beautiful baby girl born 22/12/11 :j0 -

Hey,
Yeah we realise now that the currency is 'closed', there are no Vietnamese restaurants near us unfortunately so I think we're relying on people who are about to travel out.
For anyone who is interested, I have 4,380,150 Dong available!
[and yes, in retrospect the title of this thread seems a little risqu!...]

Vietnam đồng is largely useless in Vietnam. It's almost totally useless outside Vietnam.
As has been said, better to change with someone who going there on holiday, or keep for your next trip.0 -
4,380,150VND
Thats around £150 if you get the absolutely best rate possible.
I would think that any traveller would know you cant get rid of it and may offer you £100-120. I wouldnt expect to get more than that.:jProud mummy to a beautiful baby girl born 22/12/11 :j0 -
Mr Lahey - why would anyone send money through the post without having payment in hand? Crazy
If you wanted to do it safely you need to meet to exchange money (in a public place where people know you are of course!)
Perhaps you could use paypal or similar so you have recourse (if they cover foreign currency sales) if the Dong never arrives?:jProud mummy to a beautiful baby girl born 22/12/11 :j0 -
