you can do it , but it won't last long - i did some work where this had been done and a lot ofthe joints split due to excesive movement and looked terrible , as they say if a job's worth doing , it's worth doing well

How long does it take to lift an old carpet-20 mins work? And what happens when it runs over the grippers?

You might have a bit of a problem when it comes to your skirting boards. Why do want laminate? I only ask as we had it laid in the front room a couple of years ago and as lovely as it looks, I really regret it now.

yep its cold underfoot, tho damaged wise it will stand the test of time, tho if your house proud you will end up cleaning it at least twice a day.
Its the stuff you love to hate. unless you have animals or small kids id say go for a carpet with a fleck in it to help hide the dirt.

You are being too lazy, remove the carpet so you laminate goes down flatly without movement and it will be a much better job... I love my laminate floors I just brush up any bits daily and wash it once a week it still looks good and its been down 5yrs... I would never go back to carpet in the living room as its too restricting as to what 'goes' with the colour you choose, with the laminate anything goes... you can change your colour scheme many times ..

I agree with Tanith, My flooring looks great even after 5 years.

    Goes with any decor.

Think about how grubby and germ ridden your carpet really is and your going to put nice spanking brand new flooring over it. personally i wouldnt
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
