Good but resonably priced kitchens..

Options
I have a relatively low budget for a new kitchen. Id say definitely under £3k, preferably closer to £2k. Relatively small 8-10 cabinets + cooker + dishwasher.

However I still want something that is of good quality and will last. Looking for something modern. I dont know much about kitchens and the retailers tbh.

So far...

Ikea
Magnet (quite expensive)

Any more suggestions?

http://www.howdens.com are inexpensive with depots all over the place.
  • google diykitchens .com. they are in Pontefract yorkshire.

i cant give the link due to being anew member, it wont let me.

I got mine, quite a lot of units, they come ready built, very solid, matching carcases to door colours too, soft closing hinges.
the doors are made by Second nature, and they make the units on site.#You can google second nature too, they supply most independant shops. then buy from diy k.

I did lots of research and found them to be the best and cheapest .

We are looking at buying a new kitchen too, I will check these links out. Im not really sure where to start, other than the usual B&Qs etc, who seem to have one sale after another, so never sure when the best time is to buy.

Should we be looking at carcasses that are factory made, rather than flatpack? Does that make a big difference to the overall fit?

Might be useful to have a thread on here about MSErs experience of dos and donts when choosing a kitchen.

I'm having a Howdens kitchen fitted as we speak.

I got designs/quotes from B&Q, Wickes and Howdens (via my builder). I liked the Wickes design best and they didn't have a sale on when I went but they would have given me a whole slew of stuff free. The guy told me when the sale was going to start and said that if the sale didn't save me any extra money, he would honour the first price. he called me after the sale had started and said he could save me an extra £600. I was quite impressed.

I went with Howdens for a couple of reasons. The units looked the same as Wickes, there was no 6-8 weeks lead-in time for supplying and my fitter had experience of fitting Howdens kitchens.

I don't know how much cheaper than Wickes they were because I'm having some other work done (plastering and moving of cupboard doors etc.) and I have a price for the whole lot.

From what I have seen (and the install will be finished early next week) it's going to look the dog's doodahs. I'm having the black gloss units with the long chrome handles and white(ish) duropal worktops.

  • Does anyone know how the Chimera kitchens compare to Ikea on price and quality please? Loving their gloss units......Ikea are foil and Chimera are vinyl.....anyone understand the difference?

The doors in both these sites are from Second Nature. Though DIY appears cheaper for the same door. I am actively researching kitchens at the moment and diy-kitchens is still at the top of my list

I got mine from Benchmarx. Same co as Wickes I believe but carcasses ready made. I haggled between Wickes and Benchmarx back and forth and finally went with Benchmarx.
