My cat's died

Just as a slight aside, we've always had cats & have a large funeral plot at the bottom of the garden, each one marked with a large wooden toadstool! Anyway, we've now got a fairly large dog - a Basset Hound - & I must admit it's always nagged on my mind as to what I should do when he eventually passes on (he's only 5 at the moment, but I know they're not a very long-lived breed - he'll need a bloomin' great big hole. Does anyone have any experience of pet cremations etc. or any other alternatives?0

I am so sorry to hear about your kitten and agree with other posters a plant / or stones is a lovely idea.
I have had many cats over the years, one was a tear-away and I let a friend on a farm have him as he was too unruely around here, when he died, he was buried underneath an acorn, now the oak tree is growing well and it is called Mitzi's Tree. Two of the others I had, died from possible poisoning and the Vet would not release their bodies for me to bury them, so they had them cremated and I was given the ashes, they are in my garden along with the body of another cat I had, the brother of the "rat bag" !! he was called Bitzi.
This subject is also very close to my heart at the moment as I have a female fluff ball called Billie who had a cancerous tumour removed from the back of her neck last year, the tumour has come back, but she is now 16 and the vets don't want to operate again, she has become very anaemic as her body is feeding the tumour and not her body
we are doing everything possible to keep her going, including fresh fish daily  fresh meat weekly  and cat food terrine whenever I can find it.
But, I know at some point, her time will come (and I pray it is not when I am on holiday) and when this time does come, she will be buried in any one of the 5 places she likes to sleep and I will plant a rose on top of her.
Then, no doubt, I will go out and get another cat / kitten and off we go again !"Dogs come when they are called. Cats take a message and get back to you" :j :j0 -
I always donate a sweater for ours to be buried in. DH recommends burying them at least 2 feet deep. The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0

getcarter wrote:I found out this morning for definate (had an idea about it) that my kitten has been run over and died. We want to bury her in the garden under an apple tree she used to climb all the time, I've never buried a pet before, is there anything I must be sure to do?
Also I need a way to commemerate her (not a cross)

I lost my cat last year due to a road accident, we had her a few weeks before that and we got her from the sspca centre, she was a young cat and was not used to roads.
We didnt find her for 2 days as we knew something bad had happened as she always came home.
We buried her in our front garden.
Sorry to hear of your loss as it is always hard getting over a death and coping with it.

Thanks again for everyone's replies.
We buried her last night with toys and my OH had engravd a flat rock with her name.
So now we need another cat since there's a void without her!0 -
I am so sorry to read about your cat. I've always had cats, and always will - never been without at least one since (before!) I was born!. A new can't wont replace yours that's died but it will help fill that void. My eldest is 15 now, was only 10 ounces when found as a kitten by the Cats Protection, has only one eye, has always had, ahem, rather smelly digestive problems, is incredibly timid, never ever goes out, and I will howl like a baby when he finally goes.
